Surprise, AZ Real Estate

Surprise, Arizona is a growing suburb located about 20 miles Northwest of Phoenix. It was founded in 1938 by Flora Mae Statler, who named it Surprise because ” I would be surprised if the town ever amounted to much”. In its earlier years, Surprise was a small agricultural town, but in the early 90’s and 2000’s began attracting retirees, who flocked to the beautiful resort-like Sun City Grand development. Other communities and amenities soon followed suit.
Bordered to the West by the White Tank Mountains and to the North by Lake Pleasant Park, Surprise lends itself to a plethora of outdoor activities, including beautiful hiking trails, camping, boating, kayaking, year round golf, amongst other things. The city itself boasts many beautiful and well equipped parks, including downtown Surprise Community Park and Dick McComb Community Park. Between the two expansive parks, residents can choose activities at the large skate park, two dog parks, a stocked fishing lake, aquatic community center, tennis and racketball courts, baseball fields, play areas with splash pads, and much more! The parks and recreation department also hosts many classes and community events as well, making Surprise a wonderful choice for all.
Over more recent years, Surprise has seen massive growth in planned housing communities and retail development. Here, you can find just about every modern convenience , from chain stores and restaurants to wonderful smaller locally owned restaurants and shops. There are many neighborhood communities to choose from, and each have their own special set of amenities and characteristics. The recent completion of the 303 freeway that runs North to South has also helped make Surprise a more accessible place to live. With commercial and industrial development along the entire Southern portion, Surprise is sure to continue on with it’s growth for years to come!
